Mine

On the 30th of April, 1968, the last miner left the mine at Litlabø. Now you can follow in the miners footstep and see how these hardworking workers' everyday life was in the mine.

There is a great play of colors in the mine and a tour shows how it was to work in the mine. All photos: Tor Resser.

Join a guided tour by train into Høgåsen, and a combind walk in the mine tunnels by foot. The public can join exploratory walks in Høgåsen, Sadalen and Den Blå Grotte. We can get a wheelchair into parts of the mine. On the hike, people will hear about working life and everyday life in the mine, working methods and mining techniques.

Safety is a priority. Venelaget for Gruo has carried out extensive clean-up and security work inside the mine tunnels. Everyone who enters the mine tunnels must have a guide and were a helmet.

The University of Bergen is a diligent user of the mines at Litlabø for teaching geology students. Many of the schools in Stord use hikes in the mine in their teaching. Exciting for the children in the kindergartens to enter the Blue Cave. Afterwards they get a diploma. Photo: Tor Resser.
