Børtveit power station

When Sunnhordland Kraftlag (SKL) was to scrap the older of the two units at Børtveit power station, Venelaget for Gruo (VfG) was offered to take over the unit. Venelaget took the challenge and accepted the unit. With diligence and patience, VfG built the unit that, without drawings but a few photographs to help. In addition, VfG received help from former long-time engineer at the power station, Anders Børtveit. The condition from SKL was that VfG should not put the unit into production in competition with SKL.

Engineer Bonde followed the construction of Børtveit power station closely in the early 1920s and photographed the work diligently. The picture was later an album that Anders Børtveit in his time took care of. When he saw the nice way VfG took care of the unit, he gave the album to VfG and thought it belonged there. Venelaget on the other hand is very grateful for the gift. The album will not be available for eels, but VfG has picked out 10 pictures that are made in size A4 and mounted on a board. In connection with the picture, Svein Jæger Koppang has written this information:

«This unit comes from Børtveit power station which was built and owned by A/S Stordø Kis. The power plant produced electricity for Stordø Kis from 1922. From 1952, the company had to buy electric power in addition from Stord municipal e-works, most then came from Vatna power plant in addition to Børtveit.

In 1954, SKL built a secondary station on the mining area connected to Børtveit and supplied sufficient electricity to Stordø Kis. In 1972, SKL Børtveit bought a power station.

The power station at Børtveit had two units with a total capacity of 2.4 MW. In 1992, the machine equipment from 1919 and 1938 was replaced and replaced with a new machine of 2.6 MW. "
